Honda’s New Walking Device

Today, Honda unveiled its second walking assistance device, which looks to be a stunning breakthrough. The device makes walking a whole lot easier by supporting the users body weight which takes off a significant weight load. I can see this device helping the elderly people get around. Part of the struggle with the older folk is supporting their own weight when walking. This device will make walking around town, going up and down stairs, and getting around a whole lot easier. As Honda states, “The new walking assist device with the body weight support system reduces the load on leg muscles and joints (in the hip, knees, and ankles) by supporting a portion of the person’s body weight. The device has a simple structure consisting of seat, frame, and shoes, and the user can put it on by simply wearing the shoes and lifting the seat into position.” [...]

Increase your Wi-Fi Range with the Bullet

I remember the days of trying to steal my neighborhoods Wi-Fi. There was even a time when I knocked on their door and sneakily installed a Wi-Fi extender on their router to give myself a better signal, thereby increasing my internet speed. Hopefully you don’t cheat the system as I had, but you may still want longer range without the hassle of getting a range extender. Now, Ubiquit Networks has released a tiny, attractive router called the Bullet, which actually uses regular N-type antennas- the type that receives radio signals. So when you turn it on, the Bullet turns radio signals into a/b/g Wi-Fi connection with 1000mW of power. That kind of power is much stronger than your traditional router and will give the user a strong connection. Inside the lil’ Bullet is 16MB of RAM, 4MB of flash, an Atheros processor [...]

“Sneaky” software can duplicate keys from images

Computer programmers at UCSD have developed software that can recognize and reproduce keys from images, even blurry cell phone pictures. The software takes the images, and recognizes the shape of an individual key, and produces a model which can be used to recreate a tangible working key. This is some scary stuff. The software, known [...]

World’s First Wave Farm

I’ve been wondering why power hasn’t been harnessed from the ocean since I was a little kid. It’s constantly moving… seems like a no brainer. Well Portugal thought so too by building the first wave farm harnessing 2.25MW of power and in turn powering 1,500 homes. There are three 450 foot buoys [...]
