Terrafugia Transition Flying Car
This is a WPSimpleViewerGallery
The idea of a flying car still seems decades away, but Massachusetts company Terrafugia seems to think otherwise. They are building a carbon fiber car/plane concept that will go into production by the end of 2009. That’s right, we will be able to drive n’ fly in the very near future for a reasonable price of only $194,000. Dubbed the “Transition,” it’s a roadable Light Sport Aircraft designed by a team of award-winning MIT-trained engineers . On land, the vehicle is street legal, meeting all safety standards, and by air, the vehicle meets all FAA requirements. Like the Icon A5, The wings fold in for street use and garage storage, and extend out prior to flight. Too bad we won’t be able to take off when traffic becomes burdensome; the Transition can only takeoff from an approved airport. But driving to the airport will definitely turn some heads! Some specs include: gas powered 100 hp Rotax engine, 115 mph cruise speed, and a 450 mile flying range. If you want to fly it, you will need a pilot’s license to fly the Transition, but just a light sport license, which is significantly cheaper and easier to obtain. Production schedules are filling up, so reserve yours now ($10,000 deposit) on the Terrafugai website. Check out the videos below to see it in action. [Via LikeCool]
