If you are visiting New York City or live in Manhattan, you undoubtedly have a plethora of Museums to choose from to get your art fix. In fact, the idea of traveling to Queens to see an art exhibit seems redundant. But, a trip to the Queens Museum of Art would be well worth the subway or taxi ride. An exhibit has graced the museum since it held the 1964 world fair. It’s a panorama of all 321 square miles of NY City’s five boroughs… to scale. With one inch representing every 100 feet, the 9,335 square foot model is the largest model of any city. The model originally cost $672,000 to create and have added another $750,000 in upgrades. The model is unbelievably precise, hosting about 895,000 buildings, streets and bridges that make up NYC. It’s been around since the world fair but there have been some significant updates to the model as the city has changed over the years and audio and visual aids now also accompany the experience. Guided tours of the landscape are available and the admission is just $5. Check out this NY Times article from last year to find out more. This exhibit is a must see. [via StickersAndDonuts]
